The Los Gatos Creek Trail Miracle: How a Neighborhood Association Revived a Dying Waterway
One recent success story from 2014 is the Old Willow Glen Trestle clean up initiative. The trestle is a historic railroad bridge that crosses Los Gatos Creek near Coe Avenue. It was also the site of a large and persistent homeless encampment of 20+ individuals. Many of the local homeowners were doubtful whether or not the group of volunteers would succeed and had simply resolved themselves that this was unfixable.
The South Bay Clean Creek Coalition(SBCCC) partnered with the Willow Glen Neighborhood Association (WGNA), Valley Water District and the City of San Jose Police to schedule 7 major cleanups of the encampment and remove tons of trash and debris from the creek.
Thanks to the perseverance and collaboration of the SBCCC and the WGNA, the community was finally able to reclaim this area and made it safer and cleaner for everyone.
This is just one example of how volunteers can make a difference for adopting a section of the Los Gatos Creek. If you want to join Hamilton Place Neighborhood Association and help save our creek, here are some ways you can get involved:
Support us in our collaboration with SBCCC and volunteer in adopting the creek segment that borders Hamilton Place Cottages.
